If you’re in Metro Manila and are looking for something to do other than mixing with all the suburban locals, then why not try a trip to the Ark Avilon Zoo? Surprisingly, this is a full on, real zoo 7.5 hectare large and located right in the middle of the Metropolitan, in Pasig. You wouldn’t think Manila could have anything like this as even the Manila Ocean Park is somewhat modernized. Modernized here meaning that, you won’t see any trees, grass, or greenery anywhere. But the Ark Avilon Zoo is different. All the animals are in their natural environment, or a human made natural looking environment.
The Ark Avilon Zoo is situated in Frontera Verde Ortigas Avenue Corner C5, Pasig. You can’t miss it, just look for the gigantic Noah’s ark boat. When you get there you will be pleasantly shocked to find out that for such a huge place, they only charge 300php for entrance. This zoo is a very popular place for kids and school fieldtrips are plentiful here which will make it a bit tight, but not so much that you miss part of the experience. The Ark Avilon Zoo is home to three thousand specimens of animals both local and exotic, as well as 400 different species of plants.
It’s easy to maneuver where you want to go in the zoo because there are staffs on every corner so you can ask where something is. There are also restaurants inside in case you get hungry. One of the best things about this zoo is that unlike other zoo’s I’ve been to, the allow interaction with the animals. Not really close interaction, but you get to feed them. The kids that were there on their field trip loved this and had so much fun feeding the goat. i couldn’t tell whether that goat was happy to receive attention from all those kids or if he was just starving. I wanted to feed the goat too but I didn’t want the children thinking I was a weirdo, I also didn’t want to rain in on all the fun they were having.
This zoo is definitely worth a visit when in Manila, especially if you’re there for a long time and need a break from the urban city life. It’s definitely something different and worth every cent. Something uncommon yet welcome in the urban paradise of Metro Manila, this zoo was definitely a nice break. If you have kids, this is definitely the place to go when they’re bored. All the animals there will keep them occupied and they might even learn a few things as they go. You’ve got nothing to lose, but everything to gain.
