If you’re tired of the repetitiveness of city life and the urban jungle that is Metro Manila, then going back to the basics and back to nature would be the ideal vacation for you. What better way to spend a vacation then relaxing and being surrounded by nature, listening to its sounds as you sleep and inhaling a breath of fresh air into your Manila ravaged lungs. A trip to nature is a vacation and a huge favor that everyone needs to do for themselves every once in a while.
Though Palawan is better known as a beach and island destination, it also deserves credit for its nature tracks. Close to the famous El Nido, Palawan is the island of Coron. Though Coron has beaches with beautiful, serene, and clear water just like El Nido, the beach front could be better. But that’s ok because the beach isn’t what we came here for.
Things to do in Coron, Palawan:
Go swimming in Kayangan Lake. Kayangan Lake is known as the clearest, cleanest lake in the entire Philippines, it is rich in sea life and snorkeling there is easy because of the mixture of fresh and salt water. It doesn’t hurt your eyes but still helps you float. The water is deep which generally should make it cold, but the gleaming heat from the sun warms the surface making conditions ideal for a relaxing swim.
Climb Mt. Tapayas. Mount Tapayas is absolutely surrounded by towering limestone, unlike any mountain you might ever climb. Do not waste the chance of going to Coron by passing up this opportunity. You will live to regret it.
Visit the Maquinit Hot spring. I personally cannot think of a better possible way to relax. This natural hot spring soothes the muscles and calms the mind. Surrounded by pure untouched nature, it is just perfect.
Ultimate adventure at the famous Coron Twin Lagoons. Hiring a boat is cheap and easy from Coron, Palawan. Boat drivers are experienced and know what they are doing. The first part of the lagoon is where all the boats go to get you dropped off. Then the second part of the lagoon you can only enter through a small crack under the rock formation. During low tide, you can cross a small man made bridge there. Or you could swim under it.
Lastly, you should go scuba diving and see the wreck sunken war ship. This is an undoubtedly a completely exciting experience. You wouldn’t be able to do this sort of thing just anywhere. This is an authentic sunken war ship and getting to put on a snorkel and see it is an amazing experience
